Kirk Herbstreit to host pre-draft Coors Light Happy Hour featuring Patrick Mahomes

College football analyst and Coors Light ambassador Kirk Herbstreit is bringing out pro football royalty tonight for a live pre-draft Coors Light Happy Hour he’s hosting on his Instagram page: Reigning championship game MVP Patrick Mahomes.

Mahomes, the electrifying 24-year-old quarterback who led Kansas City to a 31-20 win over San Francisco in February, will join Herbstreit virtually at 6 p.m. Central time to talk football over a Coors Light.

“We’re all looking for something to fill the live-sports void, and one of the biggest events for football fans is happening tomorrow. We wanted to give fans something fun and entertaining to look forward to,” says Sean Ferrell, associate marketing manager for Coors Light.

"People are missing their usual live sports as a means to escape," Ferrell says. "Creating this virtual happy hour gives people an hour to turn off and talk sports over a cold Coors Light."

The happy hour is part of Coors Light's new platform called #taketimetochill, which encourages drinkers to take "an unexpected moment of pause," Ferrell says. The brand also adapted its video spots to reflect the new reality with a text overlay that says "Taking time to watch sports even if it's a re-run."

Choosing to partner with Herbstreit and Mahomes was an easy choice, Ferrell says.

“Kirk is a longtime partner who brings a ton of insight on the college football side. Patrick is an authentic fan of our brand, and he’s as big as it gets. His draft experience and the overall story about how he got to where he is today is incredible," Ferrell says. "We can’t wait for fans to hear it from him tonight.”

Herbstreit, the "ESPN College GameDay" analyst with whom Coors Light has long had a relationship, will broadcast live from his home in Nashville. Mahomes, who was famously photographed with Coors Light during Kansas City’s victory parade, is set to join in virtually on Instagram.

“With most pro sports on pause for more than a month now, connecting with fans is more important than it’s ever been,” Herbstreit says. “As a proud partner of Coors Light, I’m excited to bring sports fans together for a well-timed conversation that we can all enjoy.”

They plan to discuss Mahomes’ meteoric rise and his experience with the draft, as well as take questions from fans.

As a thank you for their participation in the happy hour, Coors Light will be making donations to the charities of choice for both men.

For Coors Light, the happy hour is a way to bring football fans “the chance to take time to chill during what’s been a stressful time for us all,” Ferrell says. “We hope Kirk and Patrick are able to give sports fans an opportunity to sit back and enjoy the conversation over a cold beer.”
