Honoring veterans at Molson Coors: Nelson Shannon

Molson Coors has a proud heritage of employing and supporting U.S. veterans. The Molson Coors Veteran Group is an employee resource group that includes as its members more than 700 veterans and allies dedicated to celebrating the diversity of veteran experience and empowering veterans in our communities. As we celebrate National Veteran and Military Families Month, we're spotlighting our Veteran team members who make our company stronger.

Meet Nelson Shannon, asset care planner at our Albany brewery.

What does Veterans Day mean to you?

Veterans Day is a day of celebration, remembrance and honor. It's a day to celebrate all who have served.

In a few sentences can you describe your military experience?

My 21-year experience in the U.S. Navy was the best time of my life, and the best decision that I made as a high school graduate. I was given an opportunity to experience different cultures, see the world, and to learn through experience and share those experiences with young sailors as I rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. It really shaped me as a future Molson Coors employee.

How have you used your experiences and knowledge from your time in the military at Molson Coors?

I retired after 21 years of service as a engineman. Because of the correlation between the work that I did while in the Navy, 20 days after I retired I was given an opportunity to become a part of the then-Miller Brewing Co. as a process mechanic in the brewing department.

After nine years, I was given another opportunity to serve as hourly maintenance planner. That opportunity led me to the Albany brewery as a salaried employee, where I served as a maintenance lead in packaging. Today I serve in the supply chain warehouse and the technical services department as the asset care planner in the utilities and wastewater treatment facility. As I look back at my 17 years of service to Molson Coors, I have to say that it was all due to my Military experience.
